Commissioned as part of a research-led project into the relationship between visual stimuli and mood, Visual Resonance explores how colour, movement, and sound shape emotional states. The generative artworks evolve gradually in tone and complexity, shifting through carefully selected colour ranges to observe their effect on viewers.
The work consists of three distinct visual environments, each coded in P5.js. Custom shaders and fragments of code adapted from the open-source video synth Hydra were used to achieve the desired aesthetic. To heighten immersion, the visuals were paired with an original soundtrack composed using binaural beats — designed to guide the viewer’s emotional response with subtle shifts in rhythm and tone.
Sitting at the intersection of generative art, sound design, and affective research, Visual Resonance offers an experimental approach to understanding how code, colour, and sound can influence mood.
